Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to commonly asked questions about our products and services.

Should I remove the plastic from the grow block?
No, do not remove the plastic from around the grow block. The plastic helps to prevent the substrate from drying out. Mushrooms will grow from the slice made in the front of the kit. The mycelium will sense air and humidity and grow towards the light, so it’s important to keep the rest of the plastic intact.
Can I store my mushroom grow kit in the refrigerator?
Yes, most mushroom varieties can be stored in the refrigerator for long-term storage. Make sure your fridge is set to a temperature above freezing and avoid areas that get too cold. Varieties like Pink & Golden oyster grow kits should not be refrigerated.
What is the shelf life of my mushroom grow kit?
Mushroom grow kits typically have a shelf life of 6 months when stored properly. It’s best to fruit your kit as soon as possible, but if needed, you can store it in the refrigerator to extend its life.
How do I know when my mushrooms are ready to fruit?
Look for signs of pinning, which are small, white, mushroom-like structures that appear on the surface of the mycelium.
This indicates that the mushrooms are ready to start growing.
Can I reuse my grow block after harvesting?
Yes, you can reuse your grow block in the garden to continue growing more mushrooms. Break it up and mix it with wood chips or straw, then cover with cardboard and continue to water.
Does my mushroom kit need light and airflow?
Yes, mushrooms need some light and airflow to grow properly. Place your kit where it can receive indirect light, avoiding direct sunlight or heat sources. Ensure there is natural airflow by keeping it out of closets or cupboards. If your mushrooms are starting to grow leggy, with long stems, they likely need more airflow.
